Proven Katahdin Breeding Program
We manage a flock of over 100 Katahdin breeding ewes.
After over a decade managed within a regenerative grazing operation, the flock thrives on an all-grass diet. Our program selects for strong growth rates, parasite-resistance, easy temperaments, independent lambing, and other desirable traits well adapted to our bioregion management practices.
National Sheep Improvement Program (NSIP)
We are members of the NSIP and collect data from our lambs as they grow. We use the NSIP’s EBVs (estimated breeding values) to assist, along with visual selection, in choosing replacement ewes and sale stock.
Management Program
Our lambs are born on pasture during our May-June lambing season. While we monitor and support as needed, our ewes must lamb successfully with little to no assistance. This has created an attentive, maternal flock and strong, independent lambs who learn to graze early at their dam’s side. They are raised within a rotational pasture system with no grain input at any stage of life.
Breeding Stock Sales
We sell a limited number of high quality breeding stock animals each year. Our lambing season takes place in May and early June, and the lambs are fully weaned and ready for pickup in late fall. We encourage early reservations.
