A Farm Bridge - Past & Present

We’ve started using our newly built bridge that makes a vital connection between both sides of the farm. Now we can move sheep, tractors and water wagons in a direct route between our eastern and western pastures. This feels a little more efficient than taking our wagon train on a 2 mile scenic tour of our neighborhood—each way.

Looking at LiDAR image mapping of the farm, an engineer pointed out to us that there was a historic river crossing, just a bit to the north of where we sited this new one. I wish we knew more about the people who built it and used it. Were there cows and sheep walking across it? Horses and wagons? Whoever they were, there is something comforting about picturing us doing what people have done for the last several millenia—standing on the side of the creek, scratching our chins about the best way to get to the other side.
